Generative AI
The use of Generative AI (GenAI) is not allowed in this project for code, commit messages, PR messages, art, blog posts, engineering decisions or technical discussions.
Code generated wholly or in part by GenAI will not be merged. GenAI usage in community spaces (such as the Discord server) or the repositories will be met with a warning and further usages with a ban.
Justification
- GenAI may generate copyright-infringing text or art that it was trained on
- Under EU law, content generated entirely by AI is not eligible for copyright protection1
- This is a project we are passionate about, and we value human creativity and learning, and human-made art, discussions, documentation and blog posts
- We also value high-quality research and engineering, we want contributors to understand the project and their contribution so that they are able to collaborate
- GenAI is harmful to society (realistic AI-generated photos and videos, …), and consumers (RAM/GPU/HDD prices, RISC-V board prices, …)

See: Generative AI and copyright page 93. The quote reads: “Given this framework, it follows that purely AI-generated outputs—those created automatically by an AI system without substantial human intervention—are not eligible for copyright protection in the EU.” ↩
